History

Roger Poultry Co. Established in 1927.

Rogers Poultry has been a family run business for over 80 years. Since inception in 1927 we have been producing the finest poultry products available. We began as a company called Eastern Poultry. The live chickens would arrive in downtown Los Angeles by way of railroad and then further processed at our facility.

At some point, this transportation was no longer cost efficient. So rather than shipping live chickens, the chickens were slaughtered by the growers in the Midwest and shipped to Los Angeles by way of truck. Back then there was no refrigeration so every 12 hours the trucks would stop to replenish the ice in order to keep the chickens cold. This was a costly alternative; however, it kept the supply coming.

Throughout the past 75 years, the company has had various locations including a wholesale and retail operation in the famous Farmers Market at 3rd St and Fairfax. It was during this time that the company name changed from Eastern to Rogers Poultry. In 1983, Rogers Poultry built a new state of the art poultry processing plant in Huntington Park, and it remains as the primary processing building to this day. George Saffarrans and John Butler, family members, joined the company in 1984 and have been the owners since 1990. Since then we have continued to upgrade the processing facility by adding cutting edge equipment and a fully integrated HACCP program.

In 2008 Rogers Poultry expanded once again. We now have a state of the art distribution center and warehouse in the city of Vernon. This has allowed us to expand our product line to an even broader scale to fulfill our customers’ needs.

Perhaps our newest venture includes distributing our fine poultry products to Phoenix, Arizona. We are shipping product six days a week from LA to the greater Phoenix area. Orders placed before 3pm will be delivered the next day.
